Racing NSW has been informed of the passing of Mr Tony Raymond to whom many knew as “Parra”.
Tony was part of the Sydney racetrack community for more than 40 years and was loved by all due to his passion for racing and his beloved Parramatta Eels.
One of his friends, Todd Packer said: “Tony was always at the races with his binoculars and earphones.
“I first met Parra in the 80s while I was at Uni and had a part-time job at Harold Park.
“You would always find Parra at every trot, dog and gallop meeting held around Sydney and the provincials.
“He was a character, and I can’t remember not ever seeing him there.
“Rest in peace Parra – you made the races entertaining even during the most miserable, rainy, cold day in winter.”
In a touching moment, course broadcaster Darren Findell announced Tony’s passing before race 1 last Saturday and all the bookmakers in the ring stopped and clapped.
A celebration of life for Tony Raymond will be held at 10:30am on Monday, 30th October 2023 at Pinegrove Memorial Park, Kington St, Minchinbury.
This will be followed by light refreshments (please no flowers). Come and help celebrate a life well lived.
